Pay Me My Money Down 12 inch EP

Pay Me My Money Down was released as a 12inch single along with three other tracks in 1990.

It was released on the Spaceheads own Big Biz Niz records and was the only release under that label

All the sleeves were hand printed and screen printed. it was a limited edition and sold out very quickly. The songs featured on the Bop cassettes release of Spaceheads “Ho Fat Wallet” and is still available on the CD version of that release.

Pay Me My Money Down was a traditional song originally collected by the folk collector Lydia Parrish and then later recorded by  Alan Lomax  in the 1950′s on his travels to Georgia sea islands and is credited to John Davis and Group.

There is a wikipedia entry on it that doesnt mention the Alan lomax recording or the spaceheads version.

Andy first heard it as a child as his parents had a recording of the Weavers singing it at Carnegie Hall.

Spaceheads

Spaceheads are a duo of trumpet and drums, based in Manchester and London. They formed in the early 1990s and have released nine CDs to date as well as toured extensively around Europe and the USA.

Andy Diagram plays trumpet through electronics mainly live loopers and harmonizers. Richard Harrison plays drums and percussion.
